CSC 115 Internet Security and Law
This course is designed for students who want to pursure a career in Information Assurance, Security or Computer Forensics in preparation for working with Local, State or Federal government agencies. It covers the 10 domains that have been defined by the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC)2 as the Common Body of Knowledge (CBK). The CBK establishes a common framework of information security terms and principles collected to assisst worldwide information security professionals with discussions, debates, and to resolve matters within a common understanding. The U.S. Government has mandated that all contractors attain the security engineering subject certification Information Systems Security Engineering Professional (ISSEP). The ISSEP targets specific job requirements or career directions, and is an extension of the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification - the industry standard test for IT security professionals.
The need to protect information resources has produced a demand for information systems security professionals. along with this demand came a need to ensure that these professionals possess the knowledge to perform the required job functions. To address this need, the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification emerged. This certification guarantees to all parties that the certified individual meets the standard criteria of knowledge and continues to upgrade that knowledge in the field of information systems security. The CISSP initative also serves to enhance the recognition and reputation of the field of information security.
Students enrolled in the Criminal Justice major along with students in the Business major can expand their skills and knowledge to what is required of a Computer Forensics Specialist or Information Technology Security Specialist. This training is a must if your interested in a career in Law Enforcement or Information Technology.

Housed within the College of Engineering and Computer Science is the
Center for
Information
Assurance and Security (CIAS). This Center has been awarded the title
of Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) and joins the ranks of
only 3
other Universities in the State of California that have attained this
honor.
This designation is jointly sponsored by the
National
Security Agency (NSA) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in
the spirit
of Presidential Decision Directive 63. To receive the designation,
the Center
had to meet stringent criteria in regards to the curriculum, faculty,
research,
and demonstrate an institution-wide commitment to information
assurance
practices and education. It attests to the fact that the curriculum
meets the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for
