This is Brian Witt's home page here at CSU Sacramento.
I'm a graduate student in the Computer Science Master's program.

Due to budget cuts, I am no longer teaching classes at Sac State. Sadly, the fun factor has been being reduced.

Teaching Vita

In the past I have taught CSC 133, CSC 139, CSc 145, CSc/CpE 159, and CSC 239. I am Mr. O.S. !!! In Spring 2004 I taught CSc 130 (data structures) and CSc 131 (Software engineering). Teaching these classes means I know the class material my 139 and 159 students have been exposed to -- no excuses about "I haven't seen that idea before"!

A picture of two guys creating UNIX (I too learned programming on an ASR model 33 teletype at the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley, California; that was summer of 1976).
And Derrick (former student, CSc Alumni, etc) driving his new Z3.

Classes I have taken

A while ago, I took CSC 239, and I bookmarked a few sites.

Safety starts at home. In accordance with the "Jeanne Clery Disclosure Act", the CSUS campus has our crime statistics online.

What it means to teach...

A story about the good of open-source software in the K-12 grades schooling that occurred in Oregon (USA). It is very important not to "pirate" (make illegal copies) of software.

I earned by Bachelor's degree here at Sac State in 1994. When I transferred here in 1990, I had been programming for 14 years and was involved in two commerical programs for the IBM PC.

Should I have Spare time...

Being a grad student is more than just fru-fru coffee drinks and hanging out in the labs talking with other students. I also enjoy railroad trains, both big and small. My small train interest is the Diablo Valley Lines model railroad. Medium sized trains are in Oregon at Train Mountain. (Picture at right is me in the woods of southern Oregon.)

I used to go country dancing, but that has fallen out of vogue recently. At the urging of my friends Michael and Brad, I've dabbled in ballroom dancing a bit (and enjoyed it). I also enjoy sailboating, but haven't been out in years. When young I raced a remote control sailboat (only boring when the wind dies down...).

I have another web page on the WELL.

The FBI has published a list of the top 20 known Internet Security flaws. They can be seen at the following link: http://www.sans.org/top20/

This page hand-crafted, using vi, consisting of at least 20% post-consumer recycled bits. Sometimes I use Emacs.
